‘Appropriate to submit grilling against Sheikh Jaber, not PM’ Dashti eyes draft bill aimed at organising public gatherings
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 18: MP Rola Dashti opposed the grilling submitted against Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah over the Sulaibikhat incident, saying it would have been appropriate if it were submitted against the Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, “because he is the one who should answer the points raised in the inquest,” reports Al-Rai daily.
When asked about her stand on the request to hold the grilling in a closed-door session, Dashti, in an interview aired on Al-Rai TV, said she has sworn to respect the Constitution and be loyal to the nation and HH the Amir; therefore, she will not do anything that violates the Constitution.
She refused to comment on the possibility of no-confidence motion against the prime minister, saying “the interpellation has to take place first.” She said she will not hesitate to collect signatures of MPs in support of the prime minister, if at all a no-confidence motion is tabled.
The lawmaker regretted that the language of dialogue is deteriorating and said citizens resent the use of improper language in political speeches.
Dashti said she would submit a draft law aimed at organizing public gatherings and hoped that it is tackled at the earliest.
Referring to the Sulaibikhat incident, she said although it was regrettable, “the directives of HH the Amir were clear and should have been respected.”
The lawmaker said she visited Mohammed Al-Juwaihal in hospital to enquire about his health and noted that she will vote against the lifting of immunity from MP Faisal Al-Muslim, if a vote is held.
