Villamor, Ronquillo share Class A top spot Mercado, Madon Class B leaders KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: Allan Villamor and Bong Ronquillo were models of concentration this week as they scored contrasting victories to take the top spot after two matches of the year-end billiards tourney being organized by Filipino Billiards Club in Kuwait (FBCK). The event started on Friday, December 3, 2010 and saw the 2nd week of competition — FBCK “Christmas League” – being completed at the Hotline Billiard Hall in Salhiya Complex, Kuwait City, Friday. This event is being sponsored and supported by Western Union Money Transfer, Pacific International Cargo and Hotline Billiards.
FBCK President Chito Carlos, with a lot of support from FBCK Adviser Renz Balintos, is making tremendous efforts to continue organizing quality tournaments with a lot of help from their officials, including Rey Soriano Treasurer, Bong Tablan Secretary and Edmond Walt Bravo FBCK Coordinator.
The Technical Committee had earlier decided to hold the tournament on a 9-Ball mode of game in three categories composed of Class A and B and C with the best of 7 frames in the elimination round while 9 frames will be played in the semi final round and the championship finals.
Class A
In Class A Jr Picaso showed some real class when he claimed two victories as he first outlasted Mar Santos 7-5 before he brushed aside FBCK President Chito Carlos 7-5, while Bong Ronquillo was made to sweat before he could edge Sergio Babaran 7-6, and in the end Allan Villamor hammered Dennis Fernandez 7-2.
Picaso came back from the defeat he suffered in his first game of the tournament with a brilliant performance which saw him topple two good players and move into third place in the overall standings.
Villamor, who opened the tournament with a victory last week, was at his best again this Friday as he rolled past his opponent without too much effort to take a share of the top spot. Joining Villamor at the top was Ronquillo with two victories in both the games he has played so far but he was really stretched to the limit this Friday by Babaran before he took the last frame to win the match.Babaran now has one win from two matches to sit in 4th place.
