Kuwaitis have lowest savings

Kuwaitis are among those with the lowest savings in the GCC, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting the GCC Savings Index issued recently.
According to the survey, Kuwait is a society of consumers and most of its citizens are engulfed in debt due to their excessive expenditures, including the purchase of cars, watches, jewelry and furniture, as well as travel and tourism.  The household expenses eat up much of the family’s budget, so most citizens obtain loans rather than save.
The survey also revealed that the government and lawmakers encourage the people to spend, instead of saving, due to the approval of several draft bills on the salary increment for citizens, subsidized commodities, and increasing various allowances.

On the contraryAhmad A | 12/14/2010 6:42:46 PM On the contrary, I view Kuwait as a very poor nation indeed for many reasons. Kuwaitis were voted the most miserable Arabs in the middle-east and their spending habits only substantiate their need to reassure their unhappiness with their poor government's performance and the deteriorating condition of their country by going into debt to travel abroad to escape this nightmare and to validate themselves with excessive spending which is another way of coping with the embarrassment this government has caused their reputation in the Gulf.
ComprehensibleRoland | 12/13/2010 10:48:27 AM I'm sure I'm not the only one "not shocked" about this...There isn't need to possess a Master in Mathematics to get a logical answer. Kuwaiti citizens have A LOT of advantages from the government (won't cite any) compared to other countries in the world. If everyone had a "Daddy" very rich for 100 years, everyone would actually spend and not save...logical. But...not everyone has a rich Daddy, so we learn how to survive in this world and be INDEPENDENT. One thing is sure...I hope they are grateful of this "luck"...the world out there isn't like this.
