Teachers criticize MoE for blaming admin in truancy ‘SMS notifications uncalled for’
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 11: The Kuwait Teachers Society (KTS) has denounced the Ministry of Education for allegedly threatening to hold school administrators responsible for the absence of students, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
In a press statement signed by the society’s chairperson — Ayed Al-Sahli, the group slammed the ministry for sending SMS messages to the administrators at odd hours. The society had previously expressed concern over the ministry’s style of sending messages to the administrators after school hours to notify them on the extension of class hours on Tuesdays.
The society claimed the practice has become common among the ministry officials like the directors of educational areas, adding that through the directors the ministry threatened to hold the school administrators liable for the absence of the students on Wednesday and Thursday last week. “We do not understand what the ministry wanted to achieve by sending messages after the Islamic New Year holiday. Did it expect the administrators to send SMS messages to the parents at odd hours?” the society added.
Meanwhile, in another development, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud recently formed a committee to sign the electricity projects in 104 schools in Mubarak Al-Kabeer under the leadership of Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Construction Affairs Eng Mohamed Al-Sayegh, reports Al-Anba daily.
Al-Sayegh revealed the committee members include officials from the Ministry of Education and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). He explained the panel will visit the project sites, gather the required data in response to the observations of the supervising authorities, and coordinate with the ministry and KISR to facilitate the procedures for signing agreements on the implementation of the projects.
