Prosecution begins probe into assault on Juwaihal KHRS condemns attack on Al-Soor owner

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 6: The Public Prosecution has started investigations in the attack on owner of Soor TV channel Mohammed Al-Juwaihal during a seminar held at the diwaniya of MP Ahmad Al-Saadoun Saturday evening.
A Public Prosecutor met Al-Juwaihal at the Amiri Hospital where he was undergoing treatment and listened to his account of the incident.
Al-Juwaihal reportedly said he does not very well remember the entire event, but said one of the attendees first threw a water bottle at him and then everyone rushed to beat him until he fainted and fell on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait Human Rights Society (KHRS) condemned the attack on owner of Al-Soor TV channel Juwaihal at a seminar at MP Ahmad Al-Saadoun’s diwaniya in Khaldiya Saturday and described the attack as “a violation of law and all Kuwaiti values.”

The attack also indicates that these so-called political activists do not respect democracy and values although they claim to do so in their media statements. Moreover, any attempt to obstruct third person’s opinion impedes dialogue process, it added in a press release.
Irrespective of the justifications for the attack, all political blocs and lawmakers should learn a lesson from this incident, since it no longer seems safe to express oneself in the current undemocratic and restrictive climate, it said.
KHRS said it is necessary to improve our political practices and strengthen democracy and set a good example for neighboring countries.

Actions
Meanwhile, attorney Zekra Al-Rasheedi said the country is witnessing a chain of hasty actions and reactions and that although she doesn’t side any party, she supports the law and righteousness.
“We saw the heinous attack on Al-Juwaihal and two other Kuwaitis. It is ironic that the attackers were actually participating in a seminar held to protect the Constitution. If these people were really serious about their aim, they should have shown their commitment to the Constitution by abiding by law,” she added.
Al-Rasheedi called on all citizens to respect law and order and all court verdicts in order to avoid “gales that could destroy the country.”
Moreover, Al-Juwaihal is a Kuwaiti citizen whose dignity must be protected even if you disagree with his views, she noted.
