Parliament panel OKs draft bill on changes to Social Security Law Govt should be wise in dealing with immunity issue of Muslim: Anjari
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 5: The Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee at the Parliament on Sunday approved a draft bill on the amendment of the Social Security Law to allow married Kuwaiti women to retire after 15 years in service in case of the death of their husbands, provided they have teenaged children.
Speaking to reporters after the panel meeting, Committee Chairman MP Hussein Al-Huraiti revealed the panel also approved the proposal to grant children allowance without specifying the maximum number.
On the requests of the Public Prosecution to lift the immunity of MPs Dulaihi Al-Hajri, Hussein Al-Qallaf, Musallam Al-Barrak and Mubarak Al-Wa’alan, the chairman said the panel rejected the request to lift the immunity of Al-Barrak because the latter discussed the case of the two Iranians, who accused him of offending them in front of their families, in the Parliament without mentioning their names.
Al-Huraiti added the panel agreed on lifting the immunity of Al-Wa’alan on a case filed against him by Al-Qallaf’s lawyer.
Meanwhile, MP Abdulrahman Al-Anjari stressed the government should be wise in dealing with the request to lift the immunity of MP Dr Faisal Al-Muslim. He also urged the authority to quickly rectify its flaws and address the issue before it gets blown out of proportion.
Al-Anjari warned the government’s absence in the special legislative session slated for Monday to discuss the report of the committee, which rejected the request of the Public Prosecution to lift the immunity of Al-Muslim, will only worsen the problem. He admitted he cannot predict the outcome of the session, although 25 MPs have signed a pledge to defend the Constitution.
On the other hand, Parliament Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi said he had earlier informed the government about Monday’s session but he did not receive any response until now.
