Prison guards pocket bribes to take banned items for inmates
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: Three guards of the Central Prison are reportedly accepting bribes ranging between KD 400 and KD 600 to smuggle cell phones and various other contraband to inmates, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting an unidentified officer working at the facility.
According to this officer the family members of the inmates meet the guards at a public utility to strike a deal to pass on the contraband to their loved ones who are serving time, the daily added.
It has also been reported when the officer discovered the ploy he summoned the three guards and threatened to disclose their names if they repeated the act.
However, the guards are believed to be still involved in their activities.
Heroin seized: During a sudden inspection campaign of Wards One and Two and the solitary confinement cells at the Central Prison the prison guards are said to have seized 15 cell phones and four sachets of heroin, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to sources two grams of heroin was also seized from an inmate who has been put in solitary confinement.
The daily added all prisoners from the wards were evacuated and their belongings were thoroughly searched.
The concerned authorities are trying to find out how the contraband found its way into the facility.
Car ‘misused’: A Kuwaiti man, whose identity has not been disclosed, has filed a complaint with the police accusing a garage employee of betrayal of trust, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The daily added in his complaint the man said he gave his car for repairs and he was shocked to find his car in the garage of the General Traffic Department.
When the Kuwaiti inquired with the authorities, he was told the driver was caught for making stunts with the car in the parking lot in Shuwaikh. A case has been filed against an unidentified Arab worker of the garage.
