‘Walk the talk on mobile service tariffs’ MP calls on minister to uphold promise on reducing charges
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: Conservative MP Naji Al-Abdulhadi, Rapporteur of the Housing Affairs Committee, requested the Minister of Communications on Sunday to uphold his promises of curbing the prices of mobile services.
Speaking to the press, Al-Abdulhadi said that the minister, Dr Mohammed Al-Busairi, has promised to reduce the prices of mobile short message services (SMS) and reduce the value of call tariffs by the end of the current month. He noted that the formation of a communications commission is in progress and falls under the responsibility of the Public Utilities Committee and authority personnel at the Ministry of Communications.
On another note, Al-Abdulhadi informed that his committee will request a meeting with Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce and Minister of Housing Affairs to look into the pending issues of this legislative round.
“The parliament has issued legislations concerning housing companies and now it is up to the government to implement them in order not to delay the completion of the state development plan,” he said.
Al-Abdulhadi also requested the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to provide suitable residences for those who have been evacuated from the province of Ahmadi due to gas leakage.
He additionally urged any state ministers, who are incapable of performing their duties, to hand in their resignations in order not to embarrass His Highness the Prime Minister any further.
“Any minister incapable of managing his executive authority and cooperation with others should give the opportunity to the next generation to take the responsibility,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Protection of Public Funds Committee Chairman, MP Musallam Al-Barrak expressed his committee’s determination in resolving the pending issues on the table since 2007.
One of the pending issues is the controversial Kuwaiti loan to Russia. Al-Barrak said that talks and investigations have been on-going with the Kuwait’s Ambassador to Russia as well as other entities in order to finalize a report.
The report will provide a clear picture on the nature of the loan and its anomalies to be referred to the National Assembly.
However, Al-Barrak said that the committee is still waiting on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense to answers questions regarding the case.
The questions particularly concerned the person who had allegedly impersonated a Kuwaiti representative in negotiations with the Russian side over the said loan and was not prosecuted.
It also concerned loan interests paid in the form of weapons to the Ministry of Defense.
