‘Kuwait to host int’l conference on violence against women’ Sheikha Latifa returns from four-day visit to Azerbaijan

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14, (KUNA): President of the Women’s Affairs Committee of the Cabinet Sheikha Latifa Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah announced here on Sunday that Kuwait will host an international conference on violence against women in cooperation with the Azeri State Committee for Family, Women and Children. Sheikha Latifa told reporters after returning home from a visit to the Central Asian country, during which she headed the committee’s delegation that the anticipated conference “comes as an outcome of the visit and in assertion to efforts exerted in the domain of promoting women’s issues. Sheikha Latifa’s four-day visit to Azerbaijan mainly aimed to activate the cooperation agreement with the Azeri government on women’s issues, family and child, as it coincided with the entry into effect the agreement signed between both committees last June. During the visit, Sheikha Latifa met with Chairperson of the State Committee for Women, Family and Child in Azerbaijan Minister Hijran Huseynova and First Lady Mehraban Aliyev, as well as a number of high-ranking government officials. She also met with a number of prominent and active Azeri female figures and attend a panel discussion titled (Women in Islam. The Successes and Problems) and visited a number of centers to care for the child and family. Sheikha Latifa, who met, among other Azeri top officials, Deputy Premier Elchin Efediyev, said that First Lady Mehraban Aliyev has accepted an invitation to visit Kuwait.
