Two top officials face axe for helping import spoiled meat Al-Zuhoul plans to sue Kuwait Municipality

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: Minister of Public Works and Minister for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Al-Safar has issued a decision terminating the services of former Director of Food Department Khaled Al-Zuhoul and Head of the Management Division Mohammed Al-Enezi, reports Al-Anba daily.
The daily added their services were terminated based on a recommendation from the Legal Department of the Municipality which said the men helped import spoiled meat into the country for consumption before the Eid Al-Fitr. However, the issue came to light only recently.

The Legal Department added it came to the conclusion that the two men were involved in the scandal after intensive investigations into the issue.
In a related issue the Al-Watan Arabic daily said sick sheep and expired fish unfit for human consumption and other ‘cancerous’ food items were imported into the country in the recent past by greedy traders with the full knowledge of some senior officials in the Municipality who are said to have passed 1,355 such transactions allowing the import of food into the country.

The daily added these food items were put for sale amid silence from Dr Fadel Al-Safar who covered the case by Al-Zuhoul and his deputy and overlooked the folly of others instead of referring the case to the Public Prosecution after completion of investigations by the Legal Department of the Municipality although the investigations showed these people had committed serious administrative violations by allowing the import of thousands of tons of expired foodstuff into the country.

When contacted for his comment on the case Khaled Al-Zuhoul said he will sue the Kuwait Municipality for action taken against him.
