FM rejects accusations made by some MPs against envoys Sheikh Mohammed leaves for Abu Dhabi forum
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5, (KUNA): Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah rejected here Friday the accusations made by some deputies, during the previous session of Kuwaiti Parliament, against ambassadors.
Sheikh Dr Mohammad asserted in a statement today at Kuwait International Airport before his departure to Abu Dhabi to take part in Sir Bani Yas Forum on Peace and Global Security, that Kuwaiti ambassadors “represent HH the Amir of Kuwait and that they enjoy HH full and absolute trust.”
Further, Sheikh Dr Mohammad when answering a question in this respect said “I was not present in the Parliament’s session, but I read that an accusation was made that there are sectarian ambassadors ..... absolutely not, the people of Kuwait cannot be like that, those people represent HH the Amir.”
He added that “all our ambassadors serve the country faithfully and sincerely and they are ready to sacrifice themselves for Kuwait and there are some others who serve in very difficult and risky regions, and they raise the Kuwaiti flag in such dangerous places, and so they enjoy the full and absolute trust of HH the Amir.”
He also asserted that the foreign ministry has appointed within one year 14 female and male diplomats in the positions of heads of diplomatic missions and ambassadors, noting that such appointments is the largest batch of new ambassadors to be named by the ministry in the past brief period.
Further, Sheikh Dr Mohammad expressed his pride in “such good group of our sons and daughters who will take over their tasks in embassies and hoist the Kuwaiti flag.”
On the visit that was recently paid by head of the National Palestinian Authority (NPA) Mahmoud Abbas to Kuwait and whether he discussed with the Kuwaiti political leadership alternatives if Israeli-Palestinian negotiations faltered, he said that “actually president Mahmoud Abbas put forward his visions on the peace process and we see that all parties agree with him that the current stage is very difficult and crucial.”
He added that “if settlements construction and the usurpation of Palestinian territories did not stop, particularly in East Jerusalem, there is no sense at all to go ahead with this process and we should look for another thing and another style.”
Question
Answering a question on the reportedly unpersuasiveness of the proposed alternatives to the peace process, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Al-Sabah said that this thing will be a topic of negotiations during the Arab peace initiative meeting next week, and that Arabs will hold discussions on the next stage.
He added that “we gave an opportunity to the US efforts in Sirte summit, and we know that there is a given political situation in US and which is the US elections, but elections came to close now and we await what will the Americans propose in this respect.” On the call made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for all political spectrum in Iraq to enter into dialogue, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Sabah said that “I do not regard the call made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques — which is undoubtedly a sincere and true call from a giving country — as an alternative to the present political mobility in Iraq.”
He added that “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques says that dialogue will start following Eid Al-Adha, this means that he gives full play for this and that dialogue will start following Eid.”
He also expressed his belief that it is important and necessary for all parties that Iraqis take advantage of this opportunity and to come to this holy land. Answering a question on the threats made by some members of parliament to ministers of lodging an interpellation in the coming stage and to what extent there will be a stability between the government and the parliament, he expressed his belief that “parliamentary skirmishes became a part of Kuwaiti political mobility.”
On his interpretation of municipality’s council rejection of allocating a site for constructing a catholic church in Al-Mahboula area, while Kuwait before called at the United Nations for ensuring the freedom of religions, he said “I don’t regard this as running counter to the freedom of religions .. the issue may be a technical one, and I hope that we find the right place as quickly as possible.” Concerning the Sir Bani Yas forum on Peace and Global Security in Abu Dhabi, he said that the forum will be attended by a large number of world foreign ministers as well as world thinkers, deeming it “an opportunity for holding discussions between us and our brothers and friends on how we can reactivate the Middle East Peace Process and put pressures on Israel in order to comply with the peace requirements in the region.”
He said that the forum will see an exchange of views among the foreign ministers whether from the Arab world or other countries with the world opinion leaders.
