‘Muslims not terrorists’ GCC ready to confront terror

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3, (KUNA): Interior Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) said Tuesday security bodies in their countries were ready to confront threats posed by terrorist groups in a drive to preserve security and stability of the Gulf peoples.
The ministers, at the conclusion of their meetings in Kuwait, underlined the importance of coordination and exchange of information between security authorities of the six GCC countries to monitor movements and activities of terrorist organizations to ultimately pursue their leaders and stop their financing resources.
In a final communique, the ministers condemned the terrorist attacks in Iraq that are claiming the lives of innocent civilians regardless of their race or religion.
They reaffirmed support to Iraq and its fight against all types of terrorism.
The ministers, noted the communique, reiterated firm rejection of terrorism and extremism “regardless of the motives and justification and source.” The senior officials praised the readiness level of security authorities in Bahrain and their capabilities to thwart terrorist plots. They underscored their backing for Bahrain in this regard.
The ministers said the media has great role to play to spread awareness among citizens regarding the lethal impact of terrorism.
Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz said security measures in the Kingdom against terrorism were taking place in coordination and cooperation with the GCC countries.
Kuwait’s Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled Al-Sabah (ret.), meanwhile, criticized the linking of Islam with terrorism. “This is absolutely untrue ... Islam is not terrorism and Muslims are not terrorists,” he asserted.
The acts carried out by a deviated group like the one that smuggled explosives in parcels from Yemen “are harming Arabs and Muslims and these incidents regrettably make the West link Arab and Islam with terrorism, this is absolutely untrue,” he said.
