Kuwaiti women not being treated fairly, say ‘62.5 pc’ in local poll ‘Constitution guarantees gender equality’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: Around 62.5 percent of 200 male and female Kuwaitis polled recently on gender discrimination believe that Kuwaiti women are not treated fairly, 30.5 percent think otherwise, and seven percent said discrimination against women actually serves their interests, reports Al-Qabas daily.   
Results of the survey also showed that 90 percent of the respondents believe the Kuwaiti Constitution guarantees gender equality and 10 percent said they don’t know.
On the contributions of women to the development of the society, 88.5 percent of the respondents believe women greatly contribute to national growth and 11.5 think women do not play any role in societal development.
Asked about the employment of women, 74 percent said the employment positions given to women should not be limited provided they are qualified for the post and 26 percent have no opinion on the issue.
