KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30: The Court of First Instance, presided over by Judge Hani Al-Mane’ with members of the panel Justices Sa’eed Mohammad Al-Saleh and Khalid Abdul-Aziz Al-Asousi, ruled that an insurance company pay KD 30,000 and lifetime monthly salary of KD 300 to a Bedoun who was permanently disabled in a traffic accident. The plaintiff’s lawyer showed an expert’s report stating that the victim lost his job due to the deformity and that it would be impossible for him to secure another job. The lawyer also demanded compensation for his client’s family due to material losses and the psychological trauma they went through.
Verdict overruled: The Criminal Court of Appeals overruled the verdict of a Court of First Instance that sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen accused of driving under the influence of alcohol to six months imprisonment with hard labor.
The case file indicates the defendant was apprehended by securitymen along King Fahad Motorway for driving beyond the speed limit, after they requested him to stop and noticed he smelt of alcohol. He is said to have confessed to consuming liquor.
However, the defendant attorney argued his client wasn’t caught in the act, and so the search conducted on him and subsequent arrest was invalid.
‘Lover-boy ‘ escapes beating: Police are looking for a youth who entered the house of a family in Doha, Jahra, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The youth allegedly befriended a 14-year-old girl who invited him to her house. However, the girl’s father dropped in at about the same time and started beating her. The youth is said to have made his escape in the meantime. A case has been registered.
Kissing, hugging in car: Police arrested a youth and his girlfriend for committing immoral acts inside a car parked in the parking lot of a well-known complex in Hawalli, reports Al-Rai daily. When many visitors called police saying a couple was kissing and hugging inside a car, policemen promptly rushed to the place and referred the lovers to a police station.
Officials in fisticuffs: Two board members of a society in Farwaniya got into a bitter argument with each other and ended up exchanging blows. Both men suffered injuries, but did not file a complaint, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Sources say both men came to attend the board meeting, but it was cancelled due to lack of quorum. One of the men wanted to submit his resignation and was upset about the cancellation of the meeting. He then got into an argument with the other man and it soon developed into a fist fight.
Kuwaiti drug addict caught: Police arrested a Kuwaiti man for driving under the influence of drugs, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The man’s reckless driving in Mangaf area aroused the suspicion of a police patrol on routine duty in the area and he was asked to pull over. Police seized a cigarette rolled with hashish and drug consumption tools from the car and referred the motorist to authorities.
