KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29:   A Kuwaiti man, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been arrested by police for selling fake passports of foreign countries to bedoun, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
This happened when an unidentified government source informed the General Immigration Department that some fake foreign passports had been smuggled into the country from Liberia.
A task force was formed upon instructions of the Director-General Major-General Abdullah Al-Rashid. Police investigations revealed a bedoun had obtained a Bolivian passport and now he was looking to get a passport for his daughter so that he could legalize her stay and get her married.
He contacted an unidentified person and the latter convinced him to meet his Kuwaiti friend saying he has connections to get him a passport. They met at a café and the Kuwaiti agreed to get for his daughter a Liberian passport for KD 1,200.
A few days later the Kuwaiti asked the ‘Bolivian’ to go to a mailing company and get his passport. The passport was issued and he even managed to get a four-year residence permit for his daughter.
After the concerned authorities established that the daughter of the bedoun was carrying a fake passport, the man was taken into custody and he pointed a finger at the Kuwaiti.
The Kuwaiti was summoned for interrogation and he denied knowing the man or the passport.
However, another man who had also purchased a Liberian passport from the Kuwait testified that it was the Kuwaiti who had sold him the passport.
The man was taken into custody and police records show he was earlier involved in similar work and had been arrested and put behind bars.
The man has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
