Govt to review process of naturalizing expat wives of Kuwaitis New mechanism to block loopholes in granting citizenship: Awadhi

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29: Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdul-Hamid Al-Awadhi disclosed that the government will review the mechanism of granting citizenship to expatriate wives of Kuwaitis and children of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis, reports Al-Rai daily.
The new mechanism will be in line with the state’s policy of population composition and will block loopholes in the naturalization process, said Al-Awadhi.
He further added that the procedure is suspended for the time being, because a proposal on granting expatriate wives of Kuwaiti men social rights instead of citizenship is being considered.
Al-Awadhi asserted that children of Kuwaiti women are already enjoying the same treatment as their full-blooded Kuwaiti counterparts and added that “children who are born and are studying in Kuwait are given this kind of treatment. Moreover, the candidate should be minor when his or her application is submitted to the Interior Ministry.”
