Lawmakers said to have hampered probe 80-year-old set free after ‘intervention’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29: Two lawmakers are said to have hampered investigations in a case involving an 80-year old dual citizenship holder, which led to the man being discharged subsequently, reports Al-Dar daily.
The daily quoting a source disclosed the two lawmakers interfered on behalf of the man and 22 other holders of dual citizenship who are directly linked to the case.
The source narrated the Ministry of Interior (MoI) received complaint from a citizen alleging his father is holding dual citizenship of Kuwait and that of another GCC country.
The son claimed his father has in the last 25 years registered 22 Arab nationals, who are not from his lineage, as members of his family and feared he might lose the nationality once his father dies.
Sources said Criminal Investigation acted promptly and circulated the name of the accused to security operatives at checkpoints and he was arrested at the Salmi border exit while traveling to Saudi Arabia.
The suspect was reportedly interrogated for two days, in the course of which he mentioned the names of those 22 people.
However, he was set free after the lawmakers in question intervened.
Meanwhile, MP Saleh Al-Ashour has vowed to forward questions to the Minister of Interior in that regard, stressing the issue of citizenship is too crucial to be ignored, as it involves the social composition of Kuwaiti families.
