Kuwait backs panels on implementing international law
GENEVA, Oct 29, (KUNA): Kuwait’s delegation taking part in an international law conference called in Geneva for increasing the role of national committees, which are responsible for the implementation of international humanitarian law (IHL), in implementing international laws.
Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs at the Kuwaiti Defense Ministry Dr Mohammad Bu Zobor presented a paper on challenges facing the implementation of international humanitarian law at the Third Universal Meeting of National Committees on International Humanitarian Law held here.
He elaborated on relevant challenges and ways to overcome them.
Meanwhile, Dr Rasheed Al-Enizi of Kuwait University and director general of the Interior Ministry’s directorate of legal affairs Brigadier Asaad Al-Ruwayeh discussed forming teams to study ways to integrate IHL with international laws.
The three-day meeting is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
It aims to explain the scope of an integrated system for the repression of serious violations of IHL and to provide an overview of the legal and institutional framework required at the domestic level, stressing the role of the ICC Statute.
It also aim to provide a forum for discussing tools to assist and support National IHL Committees in implementing an efficient system for repressing serious violations of IHL.
