Sami Al-Bader & Rashed Al-Fadala reveal gethealthykuwait.com one year report.
48% of female students obese Gethealthykuwait.com holds health session

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: In a health session held today, organizers of the better health initiative gethealthykuwait.com announced that they found 70 percent of women suffered from high cholesterol levels and 48 percent of female students under the age of 18 were overweight.
Gethealthykuwait.com revealed that women’s results, especially those under the age of 18, are the main cause for concern.

The report comes after gethealthykuwait.com’s 12-month community outreach drive for better nutrition. The campaign was funded by Diet Care and Taiba Hospital and manned by expert dieticians and nutritionists from both, who on average dedicated one-day a week for giving free tests and consultations to the community and the opportunity to enroll in the campaign’s 28-day weight-loss plan. By the end of the campaign, which concluded in July 2010, 4,898 people were on their way to getting healthier by receiving free and private tests and consultations. These people were reached out to through 40 weekly community outreach visits to schools, public centers, governmental sector and private businesses.
Furthermore, over 400 people enrolled in the gethealthykuwait.com’s 28-day personal nutritional plan, collectively losing over two tons of fat in a single year.

Gethealthykuwait.com Chief Nutritionist and Diet Care General Manager, Sami Al Bader said: “Gethealthykuwait.com’s goal was to reach out to as many people in the community, providing them with free health tests and consultations to better their lifestyles. Today, we are proud to announce that we’ve helped thousands of people towards healthier living. However, with our direct contact with the community, we also discovered an alarming reality in different sectors and especially in schools around Kuwait. After providing health tests and consultations to more than 300 female students, we found that one out of two pre-teen women were overweight.”

According to the World Health Organization, over 80 percent of Kuwait is overweight, while other studies show that 25 percent of people in Kuwait suffer from diabetes or its complications.
Gethealthykuwait.com was launched in June 2009 by Diet Care and Taiba Hospital as a national health initiative to help fight obesity in the community by providing individuals with the first steps towards leading a healthier lifestyle. The initiative reaches out to the community through weekly community outreach visits by expert nutritionists from Diet Care and Taiba Hospital to provide free on-the-spot cholesterol and glucose tests, weight analysis and consultations.
Gethealthykuwait.com Head of Testing and Chief Operating Officer at Taiba Hospital, Rashed Al Fadalah said: “Many people don’t realize that an obesity diagnosis should be taken seriously, and should be dealt with as gravely as any other disease.”
Obesity can lead to various forms of chronic diseases that are non-curable and Kuwait is in great danger with the fifth highest percentage of obesity worldwide. When we launched gethealthykuwait.com, we knew we needed to do more than spread health awareness. We needed to compel people to take an active role in changing their lifestyles immediately.”
