Envoy vows justice for Jenny Detainees released after questioning

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 24: “We will exhaust all our resources to ensure that justice is served in the death of Jenny Dechosa,” Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Shulan O Primavera told the Arab Times Sunday, a day after the arrest of an Egyptian national, the primary suspect in the killing of Jenny Dechosa whose decomposing body was found by police authorities on October 16 on the roof hidden in between the air conditioning units of Hall No 5 at the Kuwait International Fair grounds in Mishref.

Dechosa, 33, married with kids who hailed from Cebu City, Philippines and worked in a salon in Salmiya was reported missing on October 10. “The Philippine Embassy has been in constant touch with the police authorities since last week thru our Assistance to Nationals Unit Officer Abdulgani Abubakar who personally went to the Bayan Police Station to monitor the latest development on the case,” stated Primavera. He added that they have already informed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila and forwarded a letter, requesting that the Philippine Embassy be allowed to retain the services of a private lawyer to assist the public prosecutor in the case.

“We are just waiting for a reply from DFA Manila and hopefully we can retain the services of a private lawyer who can focus on the case to ensure that justice will be served,” he pointed out.
He added that they had also requested the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA) at the DFA in Manila to contact the next of kin of the deceased to execute a special power of attorney authorizing the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait to handle the repatriation of the remains of Dechosa to the Philippines as soon as the forensic examination is over.

“As soon as the authorities are done with the investigation of her remains then the Philippine Embassy will help expedite the repatriation of the victim’s body to the Philippines,” he explained as he expressed trust and confidence in the Kuwait Justice system for the speedy trial of Dechosa’s case.
On the other hand, a reliable source told the Arab Times that the Filipino taxi driver who dropped the victim at a shopping mall before her disappearance was finally released on Saturday night by authorities after he was detained at the Bayan Police Station for investigation on October 18. Besides the Filipino driver, an Indian national and a Lebanese national were also freed from the detention centre on the same day the Egyptian suspect was arrested.

Ahmadi securitymen managed to find the suspect based on the victim’s mobile phone records, and he is said to have admitted committing the crime. He reportedly confessed that he had an affair with the victim and that on the fateful day, he hit her with a metal rod on her head and killed her.
Meanwhile, Dechosa’s housemates were relieved upon learning that the suspect was finally arrested. “We are glad that all the four Filipinos who were earlier detained for questioning were freed. The truth will always prevail. We will continue praying for the eternal repose of Jenny’s soul and we hope that justice will be served,” stressed one of the victim’s housemates.
