MoC tough on SMS messages Circular lists rules for firms

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 22: The Ministry of Communications (MoC) has sent a circular to telecommunication companies stating a list of rules they should follow while sending SMS messages, reports Al-Dar daily.
The ministry, in its circular, stated that it has been noticed that some people and organizations are sending text messages through mass media in such a way that they cause chaos in the society and undermine national unity, besides violating our morals and principles of decency. Henceforth, only those companies which are registered at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry should be allowed to send SMS messages to the general public. Also, nobody other than journalistic bodies that are recognized locally and internationally be allowed to send news items.

The ministry further stressed that text messages aimed at undermining national unity or rumors that may affect the stability of the country should not be sent. It banned all SMS messages which solicit donations, or offer health, diet and legal consultations unless the company has the approval of authorities and hires licensed specialists.
