FILBACK ‘Hataw 2’ tourney kicks off Various categories witness a number of mouthwatering openers

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait (FILBACK) members inaugurated their new tournament “Hataw 2” (Smash 2) at an Arabic school in Riggae, Friday to once again test their members skills and at the same time provide a venue for all the FILBACK members families to get together. This event would not have been possible without the efforts of FILBACK Founding Chairman Caloy Abesamis, Tournament Director Ed Buensuceso and their office bearers who are consistently working hard to provide fun plus fair and quality games. There are 7 categories in this competition each with a different sponsor, namely Men’s A—Century Property, Men’s B—Eureka, Mixed Higher C—AMEC, Mixed Lower C—Western Union, Mixed Higher D—Eureka, Mixed Lower D—AMEC and Mixed E.

The Technical Committee has decided to mix the pairs in the elimination round, for both the Higher and Lower classes with a 21 running score to be used as the mode of play but if two pairs are tied on 20 points the tandem which collects the last point wins the set or game. A total of 50 points is awarded to the pair which wins the game in two sets while the non- winning pair gets total number of points it scored in both the sets. If in case the game concludes in 3 sets the winning pair is awarded 42 points while the non-winning pair collects 21 points (based on their winning set) plus their points in the last set to reach their total number of points.
After the score has been tallied the top players in each class will be paired permanently according to their rankings with the top 8 pairs moving on to the quarterfinals with 1 playing 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5.The top 4 winning pairs battle in the semis with 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3. The two pairs which win their semifinals will proceed to the championship finals.

Men’s A
In Men’s A, the tandem of Mohammad Nadeem and Rasheed wasted no time to beat Nestor Matondo and Ed Buensuceso 21-16, 21-14, while Richard Amoto and Ed Buensuceso outlasted Nestor Matondo and Elmer Domingo 13-21, 21-14, 21-19, Joker and Roy Satorre hammered Richard Amoto and Elmer Domingo 21-14, 21-8 and the tandem of Mohammad Nadeem and Roy Satorre overwhelmed Joker and Rasheed 21-15, 21-16.
Meanwhile, Joker with Jess Sibunga Jr. were made to sweat before they could edge Khristian de Jesus and “FILBACK Daddy” Caloy Abesamis 20-21, 21-15, 21-17, while Joker and a player who has been missed for a long time in the arena “Da General” Anno Borbe showed that he had not misplaced his grip when he won twice, first when he and his partner outlasted Roy Satorre and Jess Sibunga Jr. in a seesaw battle 21-18, 16-21, 21-12 before they thumped Joker and Harinath Gadikota 21-17, 21-14.
On the other hand, Harinath Gadikota with Caloy Abesamis blended well on the courts and brushed aside Khristian de Jesus and Joker 21-16, 21-17, while Nestor Matondo and Caloy Abesamis edged Ramil Cadano and Elmer Domingo 21-18, 15-21, 21-15 and Nestor Matondo with Elmer Domingo overwhelmed Ramil Cadano and Ed Buensuceso in back to back sets 21-14, 21-14.

Men’s B
In Men’s B, Leandro de Jesus and Jonnie Gratil worked hand in hand, pressing on the accelerator in the last two sets to outlast Mark Arroyo and Rey Queddeng 14-21, 21-12, 21-14, while Sid Ladia and Rey Lubaton tamed Billy Ramos and Nick Niegas 21-17, 21-14, Nestor Farinas and Alyssa Tagate overcame Marianne Salunga and Jet Adlawan 21-17, 21-20 and Billy Ramos with Rey Queddeng brushed aside Marianne Salunga and Nick Niegas 21-17, 21-19.
On the other hand, Leandro de Jesus and Alyssa Tagate wasted no effort to beat Nestor Farinas and Jet Adlawan 21-14, 21-12, Roger Jimenez and Rey Lubaton outlasted Mark Arroyo and Jonnie Gratil 20-21, 21-20, 21-16, Mohammad Rafiq and Rey Queddeng overcame Roger Jimenez and Jet Adlawan 21-20, 21-12 and the tandem of Leandro de Jesus and Nick Niegas edged Billy Ramos and Alyssa Tagate 15-21, 21-16, 21-17.

Mixed Higher C
In the Mixed Higher C class, Gomer Imperial and Cathy Manzano blended well on the courts to outlast Maebelle Abesamis and Majeed in a seesaw battle 21-16, 20-21, 21-16, while Tony Liu and Sunnyrae Lascuna overcame Ronald Brizuela and Russel Skoyles 21-16, 21-20 and the tandem of Rene Anglita and Betchai Buensuceso edged Joshua Monongol and Alethea Adana 21-12, 18-21, 21-18.
Meanwhile, Tony Liu and Betchai Buensuceso worked well on the courts to edge Rene Anglita and Sunnyrae Lascuna 16-21, 21-16, 21-15, while Joshua Monongol and Russel Skoyles hammered Ronald Brizuela and Alethea Adana 21-19, 21-15, and the tandem of John Rubin and Majed Abdul Aziz thrashed Maebelle Abesamis and Cathy Manzano 21-6, 21-9.
In the other matches, Gomer Imperial and Alethea Adana overcame John Rubin and Cathy Manzano 21-20, 21-12 while Arnel Miguel and Cathy Manzano outlasted Ronald Brizuela and Betchai Buensuceso 15-21, 21-17, 21-19.

Mixed Lower C
In Mixed Lower C, Norma Guillermo and Biberly Malvar outlasted George Burgos and Marie Grace Calungsod 21-20, 12-21, 21-18, while Cheryl Manaytay and Earl John de Leon edged Regina Casano and Noel Sagada 16-21, 21-10, 21-13, Helda Morales and Jhun Banzon overwhelmed Chato Guillermo and Abby Sayoto 21-17, 21-18 and Brilly Lariosa with Butch Bagahansol thumped Bernard Victa and Jaime Berjes 21-17, 21-13.
Meanwhile,the girl power of Cheryl Manaytay and Biberly Malvar wasted no effort to thrash Norma Guillerm and Earl John de Leon 21-15, 21-11 while George Burgos and Noel Sagada overpowered Regina Casano and Marie Grace Calungsod 21-4, 21-11, Helda Morales and Butch Bagahansol were made to sweat before they could edge Brilly Lariosa and Jhun Banzon 12-21, 21-15, 21-12 and Chato Guillermo and Jaime Berjes blended well on the courts to brush aside Bernard Victa and Abby Sayoto 21-12, 21-13.

Mixed Higher D
In Mixed Higher D class, Rosalie Galvez and Ayi Buenaventura outlasted Roger Estinozo and Val Canicosa 19-21, 21-13, 21-19, while Faye Guzman and “FILBACK Mommy” Mayeen Abesamis brushed aside Rosalie Galvez and Jevez Cruz 21-17, 21-14, Jemelou Ramos and Val Canicosa crushed Faye Guzman and May Paligutan 21-7, 21-13 and Jemelou with Irene Sanchez tamed Frenel Gene Parcia and Marvin Maghirang 21-11, 21-16.
Meanwhile, Rosalie Galvez and May Paligutan fought for every point to edge Faye Guzman and Jeves Cruz 21-16, 12-21, 21-20, while Jemelou Ramos and Marvin Maghirang blended well on the courts and overwhelmed Frenel Gene Parcia and Mayeen Abesamis 21-11, 21-15, Marvin Maghirang and Ayi Buenaventura hammered Jelly Cadano and Joker 21-16, 21-15 and Ayi with Jeves Cruz overcame Jelly Cadano and Joker 21-15, 21-20.

Mixed Lower D
In Mixed D category, Jenna Rafael and Maricel Ilagan thumped Sherlyn Gratil and Leonel Leonor Laurito 21-11, 21-13, while Raffy Ilejay and Troy Alvarado overcame Christian Magsino and Mel Queddeng 21-9, 21-19, Vhennie Ilejay and Jing Maghirang tamed Vanessa Hinolan and Liza Guilarte 21-18, 21-19 and the tandem of Christian Magsino and Leonor Laurito hammered Sherlyn Gratil and Mel Queddeng 21-18, 21-11.
Meanwhile, Raffy Ilejay and Maricel Ilagan worked well on the courts to edge Jeena Rafael and Troy Alvarado 21-13, 13-21, 21-16 while Vanessa Hinolan and Jing Maghirang overcame Vhennie Ilejay and Malou Lubaton 21-20, 21-16, Joker and Liza Guilarte outlasted Elibeth Mendoza and Malou Lubaton 14-21, 21-20, 21-19 and the tandem of Vanessa Hinolan and Mel Queddeng had a close match before they overcame Elibeth Mendoza and Jing Maghirang in back to back sets 21-20, 21-20.

Mixed E
Only two games took place in Mixed E event with Mechelle Magbanua and Jason Sibunga overcoming Hajj Christian Queddeng and Joker 21-14, 21-19 and Jason Sibunga paired with Joker overpowering Mechelle Magbanua and Hajj Christian Queddeng 21-20, 21-14.
