5 charities suspended Law violated during Ramadan

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: The Department of Charitable Societies in Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has closed the accounts of five charity organizations that violated law in the holy month of Ramadan, reports Al-Jareeda daily quoting reliable sources.

Those societies are said to have collected donations through illegal means, and published advertisements in the newspapers and magazines asking for money with the aim of starting new charitable projects in secret without prior approval by the Ministries Foreign Affairs and Social Affairs and Labor.

Meanwhile, the Director of Charitable Societies Department Nasser Al-Ammar said it submitted a report to the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammed Al-Afasi asking him to suspend announcing new charitable societies for six months to assess their activities, while modifying the system of declaring such societies.

“Charity workers must acknowledge that accurate application of rules and regulations yield successes,” Al-Ammar stressed.
He disclosed the department is currently supervising 10 charitable societies and 77 donor agencies, besides 70 agencies on waiting list.
With request to suspend announcing new charitable societies, Al-Ammar said new projects in that regard require assessment to evade mistakes and ambiguities.
