Al-Ghunaim again listed in Forbes’ list of 100 most powerful women
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Board Chairperson of Global Investment House Maha Al-Ghunaim has been once again listed in the Forbes’ list of world’s 100 most powerful women for the year 2010, and Al-Ghunaim held the first position among Arab women in the business field, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Ghunaim was listed at 36th position in the business field worldwide and 94th in the general category. Forbes said the past few years were very hard on Al-Ghunaim as the Board Chairperson of Global Investment House, which is one of the biggest investment firms in the region. It added that with a massive expansion plan that went beyond expectations, Global faced tough problems and was affected by the global financial crisis. The company’s losses reached $70 million in the second quarter and it is trying to re-organize its debts worth $1.7 billion. Forbes said Al-Ghunaim will focus first on repaying the company’s debts and will concentrate on developing markets such as Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, Sheikha Lubna Al-Qasimi was ranked 70th in the general field and 23rd in political field. Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, the wife of Prince of Qatar, came 24th in the political field. Also, Queen Rania Abdullah of Jordan was ranked 25th in the political field and stood at 76th position in the general category.
The list of the 100 most powerful women included presidents, singers and others. The First Lady of America Michelle Obama topped the list.
