Junior officers slam superiors ‘Municipality seals removed from violating shops’
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7: Junior officers at Jahra Municipal branch criticized their seniors and alleged that the latter intervene and scuttle all attempts to enforce law on violators “while constantly bragging in media about law enforcement,” reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Sources said the junior officers had shut down two perfume and accessories shops at a popular mall in Jahra due to their glaring violations. The officers sealed the entrances of the shops with tapes of municipality. All their efforts, however, went in vain when a top official gave verbal authorization to shop owners to remove the seals. “Business resumed in the shops as usual,” said sources and wondered if some people should be above the law because they have influence.
Junior officers have been reportedly deliberating on this issue and decided to tackle the problem by ignoring the illegal orders of their superiors.
Sources further added that 43 senior officers of the municipality who reached legal retirement age were to be released, but some of them with the backing of lawmakers got themselves transferred to other departments or are continuing to work in the same positions. Acts of injustice like these will discourage honest employees and will dampen their zeal, warned sources.
