Court rules in favor of fraudster 309 defendants asked to pay man KD 40 each
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: A court in Kuwait recently ruled in favor of a bedoun and asked the defendants Afghans and Pakistanis to pay the man KD 123,000 (KD 40 each), reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The man had filed lawsuits against 309 people — Afghan and Pakistani workers — after taking advantage of the victims because they are illiterate and have no knowledge of written Arabic.
The bedoun published an advertisement seeking workers in his company and the victims signed documents in Arabic without knowing the content.
The victims said they were made to sign on promissory notes saying he will summon them whenever the need arises and in this way the plaintiff cheated the victims.
The victims said the fraud was discovered when some of them applied for renewal of their driving licenses or were stopped at the border and prevented to leave the country because their names had been blacklisted for failing to pay debts.
Meanwhile, a lawyer representing the Embassy of Afghanistan said he has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor to conduct investigations into the issue and take legal action against the fraudster.
