Kuwait praises Iranian fatwa Cabinet discusses sectarian discord

KUWAIT, Oct 4, (KUNA): Kuwait government praised Monday Muslim scholars to address discord and sectarian extremism, while commending Iran’s spiritual leader Ali Khamenei’s religious decree (fatwa) in which he forbid offending Sayyeda Aisha, wife of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), or any Muslim icon.

The Cabinet, in its meeting chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, said it was confident that Muslims were aware of all attempts to create discord amongst them.

The Cabinet, in this context, discussed all efforts to confront plans of sectarian discord and to show how Islam was a “civilized” religion, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan Al-Roudhan said in a statement after the government meeting.

The Cabinet, meanwhile, welcomed the return of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to Kuwait following a private visit abroad.

On the other hand, Sheikh Nasser briefed the Cabinet about his visit to Mexico, as representative of the Amir, to celebrate the Republic’s 200 anniversary of independence, as well as his visit to Washington and meeting with Vice-President Joe Biden.

Sheikh Nasser also briefed the Cabinet members about outcome of the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the UN General Assembly (UNGA) meetings, during which the Kuwaiti Premier affirmed importance of supporting the international community to addressing poverty, hunger and famine, as well as to focus on confronting terrorism and challenges, noted Al-Roudhan.
Sheikh Nasser also spoke about outcomes of his visits and meetings he held with leaders of friendly and brotherly countries on sidelines of the sessions in New York.

Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, for his part, briefed the executives about the meeting between the foreign ministers of GCC and ASEAN countries, as well as the GCC troika meeting with the Chinese foreign minister over regional issues.
Sheikh Mohammad also talked about the GCC troika meeting with the Rio Group to boost political, economic and cultural relations between the two blocs.

He also explained to the Cabinet members current preparations for the Arab-Latin American Summit, due in Peru next year, to cement political, economic and investment cooperation.
Sheikh Mohammad said Latin American countries appreciated the tour of Sheikh Nasser last July, and considered it an important step to boost relations in all fields.
