Felizardo & Antonio, Laguio & Enriquez in top spots Rimando-Lara dominate Men’s Higher B

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 4: The Filipino Badminton Association in Ahmadi (FBAA) has become one of the most popular and best organized badminton associations in the country with one successful tournament after another and this was true again last Friday when the organization put together yet another event, this time the “Two Days Open Doubles Tourney” at the Fahaheel Sports Center. After the first day of action Sherwin Felizardo and Ed Antonio were in control in the Men’s Higher A while Dave Laguio and Francis Enriquez were making the mark in the Men’s Lower A, Janet Rimando and Arnel Lara were dominating the Men’s Higher B, and Karlo Petines and Maricel Romano were showing their class in Men’s Lower B. The FBAA Technical Committee had earlier decided on 9 categories for event with all the contenders getting equal chances in their run for the title. These categories are : Men’s Higher A, Lower A, Men’s Higher B and Lower B, Men’s Higher C and Lower C, Ladies Higher A, Ladies B and Mixed D.

Men’s Higher A
The tandem of Sherwin Felizardo and Ed Antonio collected 3 wins and 8 set points to take the driver’s seat in Men’s Higher A event when they outlasted Joenel Seva and Joms Tantiangco twice in a seesaw battles with the first match being won 15-7, 11-15, 15-11 and the score being 15-11, 12-15, 15-7 in the second. The winners then appeared that they were in a hurry when they wasted no time to beat Allan Bondoc and Joshua Lagran in 2 easy sets 15-14, 15-10.

Rowx Bugas and Abel Villanueva were 2nd best so far, when they claimed 3 wins and 6 set points as they edged the top pair of Sherwin and Ed after pressing on the accelerator in the last 2 sets 11-15, 15-10, 15-12, before they edged Allan and Joshua 14-15, 15-14, 15-9 and then went on to outlast Forp “Da Flash” Alonzo and Nikka Mae Roda 9-15, 15-9, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Joenel Seva and Joms Tantiangco scored 2 wins and 8 set points when they first hammered Forp and Nikka in back to back sete 15-10, 15-10 before they overpowered Rowx and Abel 15-7, 15-11.
Allan Bondoc and Joshua Lagran tied with them on 2 wins but they were a little down the order as they collected 5 set points when they were made to sweat before they could edge Joenel and Joms 13-15, 15-14, 15-14 and then outlasted Forp and Nikka 15-13, 13-15, 15-9.

Men’s Lower A
In Men’s Lower A, Dave Laguio and Francis Enriquez proved that they are the best so far as they were unbeaten in 4 matches as they first overwhelmed Jong and Jerry 15-11, 15-14, before brushing aside Emil and Tony 15-9, 15-14, then outlasted July and Marvin 15-14, 14-15, 15-7 and in the end thumped Zahid and Roy 15-14, 15-12.
The tandem of Philip Marimla and Gerry Aguilar scored 3 wins when they brushed aside Edward Edward and Kenjie 15-6, 15-11 before they thrashed JP and Mike 15-7, 15-2 and overpowered Jong and Jerry 15-5, 15-8.
July Espiritu and Marvin de Luna blended well on the courts and brushed aside Ron and Norman 15-11, 15-7, then in the end outlasted Philip and Gerry in a seesaw battle 15-14, 11-15, 15-12 and overcame JP and Mike 15-7, 15-14.

Meanwhile, Emil Millanar and Tony Osea compiled 2 wins when they fought hard to outlast Arnie and Mark 15-13, 11-15, 15-12 before thumping Zahid and Roy 15-11, 15-8.
Jong Rimando and Jerry Labagnoy played well for their 2 victories when they overcame Arnie and Mark 15-7, 15-14 before going on to tame JP and Mike 15-14, 15-9.
Zahidul Islam and Roy Satorre accomplished 2 wins when they edged Ron and Norman 15-11, 9-15, 15-10 and then showed great form to hammer Arnie and Mark 15-5, 15-10.
Edward Pascual and Kenjie Corpuz bounced back in 2 of their matches when they overwhelmed JP and Mike 15-14, 15-13 and pressed hard on the accelerator in the last 2 sets of their next game to edge Ron and Norman 11-15, 15-14, 15-11.
Ron Margate and Norman Abad did not go home empty handed when they outlasted Emil and Tony 12-15, 15-13, 15-13 while Arnie Manuel and Mark Zalavarria overcame Edward and Kenjie 15-10, 15-14.

Men’s Higher B
In Men’s Higher B, the tandem of Janet Rimando and Arnel Lara showed some real class when they maintained an unbeaten run in their 4 matches, winning all of them in two sets. Janet and Arnel first hammered Chris and Vince 15-10, 15-6, before overpowering Tonee and Robert 15-9, 15-13, then brushing aside Arnold and Joel 15-11, 15-12 and in the end they thumped Ryan and Arjay 15-11, 15-6.
Tim Torres and Mokbul Hussain blended well on the courts to keep an unbeaten record in 4 games when they overcame Lala and Friday 15-14, 15-13, before they outlasted Roma and Alyssa 15-13, 14-15, 15-12, edged Gene and Pio 12-15, 15-10, 15-8 and completed their excellent run with a 15-13 15-9 thumping of Rio and Aileen.

Gene Aniversario and Pio Escuzar were also in good form, accomplishing 3 wins when they brushed aside Tonee and Robert 15-8, 15-14, outlasted 8-15, 15-14, 15-11 and in the end hammered Arnold and Joel 15-4, 15-8.
The tandem of Ryan Aguilar and Arjay Lesaca completed 2 wins when they edged Lala and Friday in a seesaw battle 15-12, 12-15, 15-14 and fought hard to outlast Chris and Vince 15-11, 14-15, 15-13.
Rio Ferrer and Aileen Perez bounced back and tamed Roma and Alyssa 15-11, 15-11, Roma Valdez and Alyssa Tagate edged Ryan and Arjay 8-15, 15-9, 15-14, Lala and Friday outlasted Rio and Aileen 13-15, 15-12, 15-14, Arnold Miclat and Joel Marasigan edged Roma and Alyssa 15-12, 11-15, 15-9, Chris Hernandez and Vince Vidal overcame Arnold and Joel 15-13, 6-15, 15-14 and Tonee Valdez and Robert Gubat thumped Chris and Vince 15-10, 15-11.

Men’s Lower B
In Men’s Lower B, Karlo Petines and Maricel Romano pulled off an unbeaten run on the first day with 4 wins when they first hammered Roman and Keisha 15-10, 15-9, before overpowering Cesar and Jim 15-6, 15-12, thumping Chito and Kevin 15-14, 15-7 and closing their excellent run by taming Roy and Soliman 15-12, 15-13.
The tandem of Cesar Isidro and Mark Rivaca were also on a winning streak as they maintained an undefeated record after brushing aside Cesar and Jim 15-9, 15-6, thrashing Roman and Keisha 15-7, 15-9 and outlasting Hans and Romeo 12-15, 15-7, 15-1.

Hans Ita-as and Romeo Bolos showed what they could do when they recovered from their defeat to first overpower Cesar and Jim 15-10, 15-11 and then overwhelm James and Melissa 15-11, 15-12.
Meanwhile, Chito Santos and Kevin Yap bounced back and brushed aside Hans and Romeo 15-5, 15-14 while James Blaz and Melissa Al Bannay first hammered Roy and Soliman 15-13, 15-11 and then edged Chito and Kevin 11-15, 15-13, 15-13.
Roman Malabanan and Keisha Stecky found the going to their liking when they outlasted Cesar and Jim 14-15, 15-14, 15-5 and thumped Roy and Mohammad 15-9, 15-12.
On the other hand, Roy Francisco and Mohammad Soliman won twice when they outlasted Chito and Kevin 15-10, 6-15, 15-14 and then thumped James and Melissa 15-14, 15-11.

Men’s Higher C
In Men’s Higher C, Benedict Garcia and Edwin Manzano scored 3 wins when they hammered Aldrin and Glenn 15-3, 15-10, before edging JR and Lorelie 11-15, 15-11, 15-11, and thumping Arcee and Keisha 15-12, 15-8.
Eric Farthing and Jun Domingo scored three victories when they outlasted Mathew and Joel P 11-15, 15-6, 15-12. thumped JR and Lorelie 15-14, 15-11 and in the end overwhelmed Arcee and Keisha 15-9, 15-11.
Jeanette Tantiangco and Claire Agsao were all class as they tamed Arcee and Keisha 15-13, 15-9, before thrashing JR and Lorelie 15-9, 15-7 and outlasting Aldrin and Glenn 12-15, 15-10, 15-10 after losing the first set.

Raymond Albay and Freddie Ocampo found they had great coordination when they thumped Mathew and Joel 15-5, 15-12 before edging Bren and Edwin 13-15, 15-9, 15-11 and outlasting Sonal and Dr. 15-14, 11-15, 15-6.
Sonal Mashankar and Dr. Mashankar were on a winning roll when they outlasted Eric and Jun 10-15, 15-11, 15-9, before edging Mathew and Joel 15-7, 11-15, 15-6 and edging Jeanette and Claire 15-5, 8-15, 15-6.
Aldrin Turalde and Glenn Pilotas found out they could combine well when they outlasted Arcee and Keisha 15-4, 15-10, 15-14 and edged Raymond and Freddie 11-15, 15-14, 15-9.
Mathew Ooman and Joel Pereira did not go home empty handed when they overcame JR and Lorelie 15-13, 15-14.

Men’s Lower C
In Men’s Lower C, Victor Toledo and Anthony Petrache achieved an unbeaten record with 4 wins when they outlasted Dodi and JD Omara in a seesaw battle 15-10, 12-15, 15-9, before they edged Victor and AAnthony 15-10, 12-15, 15-10, outlasted Kristine and Mathew 15-14, 14-15, 15-7 and in the end hammered Ell and Elmer 15-14, 15-13.
Celso Cruz and Allan Andrew were in great form when they first tamed Bill and Neil 15-6, 15-11 before maintain their momentum to thump Marlon and Joel 15-9, 15-12.
Dodi El Din and JD Omara overcame an earlier setback in a close match as they took out the anger for their defeat on Marlon and Joel whom they tamed 15-16, 15-4 before outlasting Celso and Allan 9-15, 15-14, 15-7 and overpowering 15-8, 15-12.
Ell Parado and Elmer Rivera were not to denied their moment of glory as they brushed aside Marlon and Joel 15-13, 15-10 before overwhelming Chris and Lito 15-9, 15-7.
Kristine Novino and Mathew Valdez were also in great form as they tamed Celso and Allan 15-11, 15-13, brushed aside Chris and Lito 15-12, 15-14 and outlasted Ell and Elmer 12-15, 15-11, 15-7.
Bill Smith and Neil Ocampo collected two wins when they overcame Marlon and Joel 15-11, 15-14 and then edged past the tandem of Chris Castilla and Lito Lorempo 15-14, 9-15, 15-7.

Ladies A
In Ladies A, Anne Diaz and Lhen Vidal showed how things should be done when they thrashed Sang and Thess 15-3, 15-4, outlasted Ness Aguilar and Beng Pastor 15-18, 7-15, 15-14 and completed their victory run when they thumped Jellica Espinosa and Nihar Esmula 15-9, 15-12.
Elsie San Juan and Yolly Corre overwhelmed Sang and Thess 15-9, 15-6, before edging Sanse Mendoza and Maricel Culangan 15-11, 5-15, 15-11 and outlasting Glorence M. and Lyn Mendoza 9-15, 15-8, 15-12 for three wins in a row.
Ness Aguilar and Beng Pastor made up for an earlier defeat by thumping Imee and Susan 15-3, 15-14 and brushing aside 15-12, 15-11.

Imee Castro and Susan Santos found the going to their liking when they first crushed Anne and Lhen 15-8, 15-6 and then maintained their form to rout Jell and Nihar 15-13, 15-8.
Glorence M. and Lyn Mendoza fought back from their defeat in one of their matches to tame Sang and Thess 15-8, 15-10 before they thumped Sanse and Maricel 15-8, 15-10.
Sanse Mendoza and Maricel Culangan also took revenge for an earlier defeat on their next opponents as they overcame Sang and Thess 15-10, 15-14 and outlasted Imee and Susan 15-12, 9-15, 15-11.
Jellica Espinosa and Nihar Esmula found their form after losing their first match to overwhelm Ness and Beng 15-13, 15-8 before beating Glorence and Lyn 15-13, 15-4.

Ladies B
In Ladies B, Cecille Ibon and Felina Nicolau maintained an unbeaten run when they thrashed Luisa and Girlie 15-4, 15-4, overwhelmed Nelia Torres and Belinda Valdez 15-6, 15-11, thumped Vervil Estrecho and Shy Daprosa 15-8, 15-14 and hammered Annie and Tanette 15-7, 15-8 for 4 wins in a row to show that they mean business and aim to go for the title.
Gren Padrones and Arlene San Mateo had 3 wins when they overpowered Nelia and Belinda 15-6, 15-7, before outlasting Annie and Tanette 15-8, 11-15, 15-7 and crushing Luisa and Girlie 15-3, 15-3.
Vervil Estrecho and Shy Daprosa fought back after losing their first match to brush aside Nelia and Belinda 15-9, 15-10, tame Annie and Tanette 15-5, 15-12 and overpower Gren and Arlene 15-11, 15-8.
Nelia Torres and Belinda Valdez may have lost two matches but they showed they can play quite well when they hammered Luisa and Girlie 15-10, 15-8 and outlasted Annie and Tanette 15-9, 9-15, 15-13.

Mixed D
Catherine Punzalan and Jerry Tan were in a class of their own when they overpowered Wilmyn and Unida 15-12, 15-9, routed Ems and Alya 15-14, 15-11, thrashed Andy and Mikey 15-1, 15-2 and crushed Claudette and Jeremy 15-5, 15-9.
Anthony Nicolau and Terencio Latoja also scored 4 victories when they show good form to outlast Claudette and Jeremy 15-14, 12-15, 15-10, before hammering April and Gerry 15-7, 15-14, brushing aside Wilmyn and Unida 15-4, 15-8 and in the end thrashing Irwin and Marivic 15-7, 15-8.
Beth Marasigan and Marge El Din also showed they mean business when they brushed aside Hammie Ita-as and Ayem Miole 15-6, 15-8 before they outlasted Alvin and Marvin 11-15, 15-13, 15-12, thrashed Jade and Ryan 15-2, 15-7 and overcame Daisy and Rani 15-9, 15-8.

Stella Cagampang and Shirley Iglesias scored 3 wins when they overwhelmed Bhez and Reyvie 15-2, 15-4, thumped Tater and Jeremy 15-6, 15-7 and overcame Hammie and Ayem 15-9, 15-13.
Alvin Estabillo and Marvin Abalos were also not to be denied their moment of glory as they overwhelmed April and Gerry 15-8, 15-13, before edging Stella and Shirley 15-13, 12-15, 15-13 and thumping Irwin and Marivic 15-6, 15-7 to end a good day.
Daisy Villanueva and Rani Calma also had 3 wins when they brushed aside Irwin and Marivic 15-11, 15-8, overwhelmed Ems and Alya 15-7, 15-10 and overpowered Wilmyn and Unida 15-6, 15-8.
Claudette Farthing and Jeremy Lindquist outlasted Tater and Jeremy 15-6, 12-15, 15-8, and overwhelmed Bhez and Reyvie 15-6, 15-12 to show that they are really good players and can’t be taken for granted.

Ems and Alya triumphed twice as they overwhelmed Hammie Ita-as and Ayem Miole 15-13, 15-11, before they brushed aside Bhez and Reyvie 15-8, 15-8.
In the other matches, April Fernandez and Gerry Torio overwhelmed Tater and Jeremy 15-9, 15-13 before they overpowered Jade and Ryan 15-12, 15-12, while Jade and Ryan thumped Andy and Mikey 15-7, 15-7, Bhez and Reyvie brushed aside Irwin and Marivic 15-10, 15-8, Hammie and Ayem crushed Andy and Mikey 15-4, 15-8, Wilmyn and Unida outlasted Jade and Ryan 12-15, 15-13, 15-12, and the tandem of Tater and Jeremy hammered Andy and Mikey 15-10, 15-4.
