Securitymen allegedly thwart bid to hold seminar in Firdous Govt should refrain from restraining freedom of citizens: Al-Shulaimi

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: The government should refrain from restraining the freedom of citizens to douse tension in the country, says Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Activists Society Khalid Al-Shulaimi.
Al-Shulaimi made the statement after the security operatives allegedly prevented some people from participating in a seminar held in Firdous Wednesday under the slogan, “The Interior Ministry amid Corruption and Execution of Law”. He claimed the Ministry of Interior refused to register an incident report at Firdous Police Station on the intensive security presence and harsh procedures, which hampered the entry of people to the seminar venue and various houses.

Pointing out the action was an embarrassment to the ministry, he compared the situation to a scene in an action film.

He called on the ministry to stop taking such measures, indicating the seminar was supposed to discuss corruption in the ministry, which did not have any bearing on the national unity issue.
It has been reported that a large number of special squads were deployed in front of the station, only a few meters away from the venue of the seminar. This impeded the movement of the residents to and from their homes due to the inspection of their identification cards.

Meanwhile, MP Daifallah Buramiya revealed some activists have agreed on the need to question the interior minister over the incident. He said the situation is getting worse everyday during the tenure of the minister. He described the incident as ideological terrorism and infringement on citizens’ rights. “We shall discuss with like-minded lawmakers the next line of action against the ideological terrorism in the country,” the lawmaker added.
