Security campaign targets hawkers

Security operatives from the Ahmadi Governorate during a surprise security campaign in front of two mosques in Mahboula- just before the Friday prayers, have arrested 75 hawkers who were caught selling foodstuffs, including vegetables, fish, used clothing, and government’s subsidized milk.

In a statement, the Director General of Ahmadi Security Directorate Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali, who participated in the operation, confirmed the campaign will continue over an unspecified period to eradicate the negative phenomenon, which has created a bad impression of Kuwait.

He noted such acts pose security and health risks to people, considering the vendors do not have licenses to sell foodstuffs and they sell stolen items, besides other commodities unsuitable for human consumption. He went on saying many housemaid steal items from their sponsors’ homes, which they keep hidden inside the waste containers until the vendors collect the items. He confirmed many people have been caught in the process.

Major General Al-Ali noted that individuals found culpable of offenses such as violation of the residency law, trading in international calls, running groceries without licenses and bachelors staying in the area will be deported.

Child dies, several rescued from fire : A three-year old child perished in a fire that engulfed a house in Jaber Al-Ali.
Acting on information the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received about the fire, paramedics accompanied firefighters and securitymen to the scene to assist the situation.
Upon arrival, the rescue team went ahead to evacuate the tenants from the building before they put out the fire.
However, the officers discovered the child had died in the fire, after they managed to extinguish the blaze.
In a similar incident, six persons suffocated when fire erupted at a building in Thaher area.
According to sources, firemen rushed to the location and doused the fire successfully, as the paramedics accompanying the firefighters to the scene treated two of the victims on the spot.
High ranking fire officials were reportedly present to direct the operation.
