Cabinet appeals for unity Vow to end chaos

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16, (KUNA): An extraordinary Cabinet session concluded on Thursday at Sief Palace, aimed at putting a stop to recent clashes in the media between several entities in Kuwait, which threaten national unity, a minister said. Following the session, Minister of Communication and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr Mohammad Mohsin Al-Busairi said that this tension “does not suit the Kuwaiti society’s dedication to unity in all its sects, and this is what Kuwait is used to throughout the generations.”

Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah expressed enormous gratitude and pride at the direction of His Highness the Amir, in his opening wise fatherly speech to the nation during the final 10 nights of the holy month of Ramadan. Sheikh Jaber praised HH the Amir’s constructive advice, wisdom and precise vision, and his calls to unite according to patriotic belief in the face of challenges, while warning of the dangers of sedition and segregation. The acting Prime Minister also commended HH the Amir’s calls for local media to commit to their noble role in support of a conscious freedom and tackling division and separation. Ministers discussed procedures that have been taken to isolate the developments of the issue, and how to best limit the negative repercussions.

Furthemore, Ministry of Interior Undersecretary Lieut-Gen. Ahmad Al-Rujaib briefed the ministers on the details of procedures taken regarding the convict Yasser Al-Habib, and his legal right to the Kuwaiti citizenship, in preparation for a final decision on the matter in the following session.
The Acting Prime Minister and Defence Minister also stressed the need to complete steps and procedures related to facing instances of opposing patriotic principles, urging all state bodies to carry out their role in dealing with dynamic issue.
The Cabinet also formed a team of officials tasked with monitoring the latest developments on the issue, and putting those who carry out such actions under in-depth research, aimed at taking necessary precautionary measures on the short or long-term scale.
The team is to be headed by the Ministry of Interior Undersecretary, and includes members from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Communication and the Fatwa and Legislation Department. The cabinet affirmed commitment to the protection of the citizens’ security and welfare as well as the national unity. “We’ll stand firm against bids to manipulate the freedom atmosphere and harm the unity of our society,” according to a statement issued by HH the Prime Minister’s diwan.

“We’ll strive to translate into action the instructions of HH the Amir to prevent of all aspects of lawlessness and regulation of the mass media, bring them back to their positive course and put into full play their responsible role.
“All efforts will focus on putting an end to the chaotic practices and the destructive bids aiming to disseminate sectarianism and undermine the national capabilities,” the cabinet vowed in the statement. The cabinet expressed confidence on the awareness of the ability of all citizens from across the social spectrum to realize the risks of sectarian divisions and work together for strengthening the national unity away from the regional and international conflicts. It urged all people to abide by the parameters of freedom, avoid harming the dignity of others, serve the national interests of the homeland and materialize the sense of responsibility as per the principles as clearly outlined by the law and the constitution.
