Cancellation of citizenship serious issue: PM Amir keen on projects

GENEVA, Sept 13: Kuwait should not play with the issue of revoking citizenship because this is a serious matter, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said before his departure to Mexico to represent the country at the 200th anniversary of Mexican independence.
Sheikh Nasser pointed out citizenship is a national identity and its revocation requires a number of legal procedures. He said the cancellation of citizenship is not a simple step that anybody can propose against a citizen without following the constitutional provisions. He argued the procedure can be taken only against a citizen accused of “betrayal and espionage.”

On the demand of some lawmakers to strip the citizenship of certain persons for allegedly violating the Constitution or religious beliefs, the premier affirmed that anybody who violates religious, social, economic and political norms, is subject to the public penal code. He asserted the government will not reckon with tough talks or any utterance devoid of legal principles. In another development, the premier affirmed the development plan is going on as planned. He said the government will try its best to overcome any impediment to ensure the successful implementation of the plan.

Commenting on the purported reaction of some companies against the execution of certain projects, the prime minister admitted the government has noticed that some local and international companies feel certain regulations do not protect their rights. He confirmed the government will instruct the concerned ministries to meet the officials of these companies to listen to their views and complaints. He said the government believes the contents of the agreements are in tune with what is obtainable in other countries. He asserted the government is determined to make things easier rather than complicate issues, so the findings of the ministries are important in this aspect.

Sheikh Nasser revealed His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has stressed the need to accomplish the projects and overcome obstacles. He said the government has reached an agreement with the National Assembly to fast-track the execution of the development plan. He lamented the implementation of the plan is long overdue, so the citizens are watching closely and putting pressure on the concerned authorities. He affirmed the government has been fine-tuning the projects and it is now ready to implement them.

According to the premier, the implementation of the projects will be based on priorities. He said the government will encourage local and international companies to participate in these projects. He added the companies should not be afraid of incurring losses if they discover any lapses in the agreements, especially those that have been handling gigantic projects for a long time with an outstanding record of cooperation with the government. He assured the government will amend outdated laws in the interest of the public and to guarantee quick achievements.

Meanwhile, a source from the Prime Minister’s Office disclosed the premier compiled negative and positive reactions to his recent interview on Kuwait TV. He is committed to every aspect of the interview to raise the level of interaction between the citizens and the government, especially since the populace is comfortable with this process, the source added.

The prime minister’s statement was addressed to the entire nation, far from the interpretations of hardliners in the political, social and economic sectors. People discovered the truth behind some issues, which were ambiguous in the past due to the actions of the hardliners engaged in dirty political games.
The premier will travel to New York, USA to attend a United Nations meeting after the Mexican Independence Day celebrations, so he will most likely meet US President Barrack Obama during his visit to Washington DC.
