‘Bloc to grill PM if new sports law not enforced’ Next session to be chaotic: Al-Awadhi KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: The National Action Bloc will push for the grilling of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah if the Cabinet fails to fully implement the sports law approved by the National Assembly in the previous legislative round, reports Al-Rai daily quoting MP Dr Aseel Al-Awadhi.
Warning the issue might lead to a crisis between the executive and legislative authorities in the next parliamentary round, Al-Awadhi pointed out the solution to the sports issue is simple - proper implementation of the sports laws. She accused some parties of taking advantage of their closeness to the decision-makers by putting pressure on the minister of social affairs to prevent the enforcement of the laws.
Stating that she expects the next legislative round to be chaotic, Al-Awadhi explained some lawmakers have reached an agreement with the government, but the latter still lacks the ability to transform the development plan into reality. She admitted many lawmakers intend to submit grilling requests against the members of the government, including the ministers of Finance and Interior.
Postponing
Meanwhile, Al-Qabas daily has reported that MP Dr Jamaan Al-Harbash lauded HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for postponing the Cabinet session to allow its members to attend the recently-concluded meeting of the Studying Negative Phenomena Committee at the Parliament.
Al-Harbash asserted the recent meeting of the MPs with the prime minister is an indication that they have no intention to instigate a political crisis and they have no penchant for grilling or political bargains, as claimed by some groups. He stressed the lawmakers are eagerly waiting for tangible steps, particularly the proper implementation of the laws, because the people are now tired of empty promises.
Calling on Minister of Information and Oil Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and ministry officials to strictly enforce audio-visual law number 61/2007, Al-Harbash argued the law gives the government authority to regulate the channels. He said it is not right for the ministry to neglect its technical, administrative and financial duties, as this may pose a grave threat to the societal structure of Kuwait.
Claimed
Al-Harbash claimed the corrupt media has been violating the Constitution, general ethics and national unity due to the failure of the ministry to implement the law, which includes 14 articles that prohibit any act against the Islamic tenets, inciting sectarian violence, harming relations of Kuwait with other countries, violating general ethics and Constitution. He said press freedom comes with responsibility as reiterated by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and prudent personalities in Kuwait but some people seem keen on instigating conflicts to serve personal interests.
On the other hand, Al-Anba daily has quoted MP Saad Al-Khanfour as saying the government should include the retired military personnel in the next salary increment, at least those who retired several years ago until the day the Parliament approved the increment, to ensure justice among citizens who served the nation.
Grant
Al-Khanfour emphasized the need to grant the increment to help the retirees overcome the rising cost of living in the country, considering the government failed to curb the soaring prices of basic commodities in the local market.
The lawmaker also urged the government to grant the civilian Ministry of Interior workers, who hold certificates lower than the general secondary certificate, an allowance similar to the amount given to their counterparts with general secondary certificates, since they all serve the country.
