Some MPs plan to establish new bloc before next session ‘Newspaper to launch Kifaya Movement campaign’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: Tension might escalate in the next legislative round due to the alleged establishment of a new bloc, while various parliamentary blocs are expected to finalize their priority lists before the opening of the next round, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources.
Sources said the period after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays and before the opening of the next legislative round is an opportunity for the parliamentary blocs to arrange their priorities vis-à-vis that of the government to ensure coordination between the executive and legislative authorities to pave the way for the immediate implementation of many important laws.

Sources pointed out the government and Parliament have yet to agree on a number of pending issues like the civil and social rights of Bedouns and women, as well as the loan interest write-off proposal.
A majority of the lawmakers believe these are some of the important bills that must be ratified immediately, contrary to the view of the government, which has outrightly rejected some of the bills, sources added.
On the other hand, sources unveiled the plan of some MPs to establish a conservative bloc before the opening of the next legislative round. However, several lawmakers have disagreed over this proposal due to their contradictory views on the political agendas, preservation of the society’s identity and Islamic tenets, and stopping immoral activities.

In another development, sources expect a local newspaper to launch the ‘Kifaya Movement’ campaign against the opposition lawmakers after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays. Sources disclosed the campaign is aimed at preventing the submission of grilling requests and dousing tension in the political arena.
Sources said the newspaper may launch a scathing attack against MP Mohammad Hayef, who allegedly criticized the paper earlier.
Sources confirmed the opposition MPs are fully aware of the newspaper’s plan to launch a campaign against them, since the planning stage started some time ago but it was postponed in the spirit of Ramadan. Sources said several lawmakers have disagreed with the proponents of the campaign, which is reportedly supported by pro-government MPs. Sources clarified the executive authority knows nothing about the campaign.
