Court orders MoI official to pay KD 1,000 comp to expatriate 29 motorists killed in accidents in Aug: report

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: A minor court of appeals amended the verdict of a lower court by ordering undersecretary of the Interior Ministry to pay a sum of KD 1,000 to an expatriate as compensation for moral torture, instead of KD 500 stated in the previous ruling. Lawyer Faisal Al-Rashidi pleaded for amendment of the previous ruling, for the reason that his client had gone to the airport after he obtained permission from the Immigration Department to travel.

However, it appeared that on file that an arrest and detain order for theft had been registered against him. He went on to explain that detectives handcuffed and detained him for more than seven hours. Al-Rashidi said his client’s name was on the arrest order list by mistake, but he passed through psychological torture for being embarrassed in front of his people who escorted him to the airport, and large crowd of travelers and other onlookers.
The lawyer presented documented evidences to confirm the incident, and blamed investigation officers at the concerned police station for the weighty error. He argued that authority should have verified the real name of the offender before sending the name to the airport.

Young man gives death a slip : A young Kuwaiti man, whose identity has not been disclosed, escaped death when his sports car went up in flames on the Fifth Ring Road opposite Qortuba, reports Al-Seyassah daily. According to reports the youth was involved in a car chase with another youth when the mishap happened. The cause of the fire is not known.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: A total of 29 motorists died in road accidents throughout the country from Aug 1-31, according to a statistical report released by the General Criminal Evidence Department recently.
The report revealed 28 of those who perished in traffic accidents within the above mentioned period were women, in addition to one man.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Kuwaiti who was seriously injured when his car overturned in Mangaf, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Adan Hospital, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to security sources the victim was speeding, lost control of the vehicle and hit the cement divider between the roads.
