Minister urges labour unions to abide by relevant legislations Bank accounts of 10 charitable institutions blocked KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9, (Agencies): Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Mohammad Al-Afasi discussed on Thursday with chairmen of labor unions of the public sector a number of issues related to the General Union of Kuwaiti Workers. The minister, during the meeting, praised the national and effective role of the syndicates for service of the labor movement in Kuwait, as well as for boosting democracy. He stressed on coordination among chairmen of the unions, as well as with legal consultants “to tackle any problems or obstacles that may be caused by unawareness of some laws.” He also urged them to abide by the relevant legislations.
For their part, the chairmen of the unions called for continuous coordination and meetings with officials of the ministry to overcome any difficulties facing the labor movement. The acting Manager of Charitable Societies Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Ahmad Al-Sane revealed that bank accounts of 10 charitable institutions were blocked due to their extreme violations, reports Al-Shahed weekly.
Al-Sane said one of the conditions for establishing a charitable institution is to have number of like-minded people who should have sufficient funds to offer them to the needy. They are not allowed to collect donations under any circumstances. “During inspections, it was found that some institutions were collecting donations by printing brochures calling for donations through other means. The people in-charge were summoned, some of them realized their mistake and vowed not to repeat such mistakes again. But some people committed clear and intentional violations. Therefore, their accounts have been frozen,” noted Al-Sane.
