Kuwaiti conducts rare gastric sleeve surgery

A Kuwaiti surgeon conducted a successful rare gastric sleeve surgery using surgical speculum on a patient weighing about 300 kilograms.
General surgery and surgical speculum consultant at Al-Amriri Hospital Dr Waleed Al-Bastaki told KUNA on Wednesday that the gastric sleeve surgery he conducted on the 39-year-old patient was very rare because of the weight of the patient. The patient left hospital after six days only of the operation, which was conducted last week, he pointed out.

The patient suffered from obesity that endangered his life and caused moving, breathing, and sleeping difficulties in the past few years, he said.
The two-hour surgery was very successful, he said, adding that it would enable the patient to lose weight gradually.
Al-Bastaki said that such surgeries enable patient to lose between 12 and 15 kilograms in the first week after the operation. (KUNA)
