Eid holidays begin Friday

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 8, (Agencies): The Crescent Sighting Authority of Kuwait’s Ministry of Justice announced Wed-nesday evening that Thursday will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, which means, Friday will be the first day of the Eid Al-Fitr holiday in Kuwait, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
“As the crescent sighting authority failed to observe the crescent this evening, the first day of the Eid Al-Fitr holidays will be Friday,” the statement affirmed.
On this occasion Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs, Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Justice Rashed Al-Hammad sends, on behalf of the ministry and the authority, the Eid greetings to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince and HH the Prime Minister as well as all citizens and residents in Kuwait.

The Crescent Sighting Authority met Wednesday at Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies under Justice Rashed Al-Sharrah, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Saudi TV announced Wednesday evening that Thursday will be the last day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
“The crescent sighting teams were unable to see the crescent this evening in any part of the kingdom thereby Friday will be the first day of the Eid Al-Fitr holidays,” the TV reported, citing the Saudi Astronomical Society.
Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will also mark Eid on Friday, media reports said.
The timing of Eid can vary in different countries depending on the sighting of the new moon, which signals the start of the month in Islam’s lunar calendar.
