Rico brushes aside Nelson to win Men Class B Masters title Nunun dishes out impressive victory in Men Class C KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: In a close and spine tingling finish, pin master Rico Galang of the Renegades brushed aside Goan Cyborgs stalwart Nelson D’ Souza to win the coveted Masters Event title in Men Class B. The Men Class C Masters Event on the other hand followed a totally different route as Nusantara’s ace bowler Nunun Mulyana led from start to finish in dishing out his impressive victory over 14 other qualifiers.
After the 11-week team event elimination round of the 2010 ACDC Summer League Bowling Tournament, the qualifiers in the Men Class A, B & C and Ladies Division based on their individual averages taken from the games played in elimination round advanced to their respective 9-game series Masters Event. In Men Class B, the 18 qualifiers who suited up to vie for the title were Shahab Khamaly, Cris Carungay, Rocky Castil, George Bouchebel, Rolly David, Noel Bejar, Mandy Manalo, Brian Fernandes, Ramon Mesina, Rico Galang, Nelson D’ Souza, Ricky Palabon, Alfred Avila, Colin Costa, Demie Nardo, Brian Fernandes, Jess Tolentino and Sarto Baptista.
Out of the starting block first, Alfred Avila with a score of 400 pin falls showed the way after the first two games by rolling a 169 and 231. Rico Galang who submitted games of 167 and 213 was a full 2 marks down in second with 380 followed by Demie Nardo-378, Mandy Manalo-361, Ricky Palabon-351, George Boucebel-350 and Lloyd Fernandes-348. On the next 2-game block, Rico Galang (754) seized the upper hand when he bowled games of 178 and 196 while a 222 and 163 carried George Bouchebel (735) up to second place. Taking the next spot was Nelson D’ Souza whose 226 and 184 scores in game three and four gave him a 4-game tally of 734 pin falls and as the field approached the halfway mark the remaining contenders were Lloyd Fernandes-711, Demie Nardo-710, Ricky Palabon-700 and Alfred Avila-699.
In the next two games, Nelson D’ Souza (1104) started inching closer to the pace setting Rico Galang (1121) with Alfred Avila (1085) gaining ground on the duo. Outscoring Rico Galang 187-170 in game seven, Nelson D’ Souza leveled up the score at 1291 apiece even as Alfred Avila with 1277 pin falls moved further closer to the two leaders. In the penultimate game, Rico Galang snatched the lead away from Nelson D’ Souza once again 1494-1486 and then went on to win the title after closing with a 157 and final 9-game series tally of 1651 pin falls. Nelson D’ Souza remained in second with 1645 followed to the wire by Ricky Palabon-1613, Alfred Avila-1611, Colin Costa-1565, Demie Nardo-1560, Lloyd Fernandes-1541 and Jess Tolentino-1518.
The Men Class C qualifiers on the other hand included Mohammad Fateh, Kamran Shaikh, Patrick Dias, Jati Winarto, Jason D’ Souza, Jun Domingo, Adrian Noronha, Rudolf Castelino, Bima Nitikusumo, Ahmad Fahmi, Gofar Husin, Bala Subramanyam, Nunun Mulyana, Lloyd D’ Souza, Rohan Fernandes, Mathew Eapen, Rey Galvez and Obet Cabrera. Coming well prepared for his rivals, Nunun Mulyana (378) grabbed the lead by opening his campaign with scores of 188 and 190 in game one and two. Also in the lead pack early in the 9-game series competition were Rohan Fernandes, Lloyd D’ Souza and Bala Subramanyam with 357, 344 and 335 respectively.
Nunun Mulyana (758) started to widen his lead over the rest of the field in the next two games where he posted 189 and 191 with Rohan Fernandes (700) hanging on to second place. Turning for home, the leader continued to show the way leaving his opponents biting the dust and with just a game left to bowl, Nunun Mulyana compiled an edge of 130 pin falls. Even a low score of 147 in game nine did not prevent Nunun Mulyana who garnered a total score of 1687 from going home with the Men Class C Masters title. The other top finishers of the group were as follows, Llyd D’ Souza-1613, Rohan Fernandes-1514, Mathew Eapen-1506, Rey Galvez-1426, Obet Cabrera-1420, Bala Subramanyam-1411 and Gofar Husin-1408.
