Ministry toils to curb drug trade, spiralling crime rate, says official Bangladeshi loses ear in fight with bedoun KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: Official spokesman of the Interior Ministry Briga-dier General Mohammad Al-Sabr said the ministry is trying to control drug trade and foil all attempts to distribute this poisonous substance among the country’s youths. The ministry is also trying its best to curb rise in crime, adds the official.
Calling the drug trade ‘an unannounced war on Kuwait and its people,’ Al-Sabr said expatriates belonging to 147 nationalities live in Kuwait and hence, extensive and continuous efforts are required to control crimes, particularly attempts to smuggle drugs. He claimed that the ministry managed to lower crime rate by 50 percent this year compared to the previous years. Al-Sabr also warned citizens and expatriates against leaving money, valuables or even documents inside their cars as some gangs specialized in stealing cars operate in parking areas of malls and mosques. Al Sabr said Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Khaled asked all leaders to increase security efforts and work on lowering crime rate in the country.

Ear lost in fight: A Bangladeshi man was rushed to a hospital with only one ear and profusely bleeding from the other, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Police reports show the Bangladeshi hitch hiked a lift from the bedoun in return for money and both of them were involved in an argument over the fare and during the fight the bedoun bit off the ear of the Bangladeshi. It is not known if the bedoun has been arrested or not.
‘Release Kuwaiti’: Attorney Dr Saad Al-Anzi has appealed to the Saudi Minister of Interior Prince Nayef bin AbdulAziz to release a Kuwaiti man, identified only as Ayed Al-Hajri who is being held at the Al-Dammam jail, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to reports Al-Hajri was on his way to Kuwait with his mother, wife and children after performing Omra. He was arrested at the Saudi border with Kuwait and taken to Dammam.
The Saudi authorities said Al-Hajri is accused of sending money to his brother who has gone to Afghanistan to fight jihad.
Lawyer Al-Anzi said the money was sent through an official money exchange office in Kuwait. He also said the amount was only KD 300.
Gang boss held: The Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh police have arrested a bedoun — believed to be the boss of a gang specialized in stealing cars and buses, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Police had earlier arrested some Syrians for stealing cars and trucks to sell them in Iraq.
The bedoun was arrested after the Syrians gave police information about their boss. The police reportedly put the man under surveillance and caught him in possession with 25 bottles of Red Label whisky and one hundred narcotic pills.
Wanted man caught: Police have arrested an unidentified Kuwaiti man who was wanted by the Criminal Investigation Department for consuming drugs, issuing a dud check and betrayal of trust in addition to other felons, reports Al-Anba daily.
The daily quoting security sources said the Salhiya police rushed to an unidentified place in the area when someone called to say a man has fallen on the ground and he is bleeding from the head.
When police tried to help the man to take him to a hospital, they found in his possession some jewelry and a number of cell phones.
During interrogation police discovered the man was not only a thief but he was on the wanted list of police. It has been reported the man was injured while he was escaping after stealing cell phones from a shop.
Yemeni arrested: Police have arrested an unidentified Yemeni man for entering the country on his twin brother’s passport, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to reports the man was arrested when he tried to escape on foot. When he saw a patrol car, he reportedly parked his car on the side of the road and began running. Police chased and arrested and referred him to the authorities.
During interrogation he admitted to entering the country on his brother’s passport because he was deported from the country one year ago for committing a crime.
