New regulations eyed for sick leave approval ‘Public sector employees’ KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: Civil Service Commission (CSC) will soon collaborate with Ministry of Health and the Medical Council to set new regulations to guide the approval of sick leave for public sector employees, subsequent to excessive number of medical certificates which the employees have obtained in the last eight months, costing the government 13 million dinars, reports Al-Jareeda daily.
The daily quoting a reliable source revealed that employees got hold of an estimated 250,000 sick leaves within the period, and explained the workers took those certificates from the Outpatient Departments at the clinics, health centers, general hospitals and private health sector.
He noted employees at the ministry of Education, Health, Defense, Interior and Social Affairs obtained the majority of sick leave, wherein the regular sick leave ranged from three days to two weeks, and extraordinary sick leaves took up to three months or more.
He added that employees receiving medical certificates from the Medical Council, Psychiatric Hospital or the Razi Hospital obtained extended sick leave. It is noteworthy that patients with chronic diseases, deep injuries, incurable diseases and orthopedic are covered under the extended sick leave, while the Medical Council will henceforth approve sick leaves issued in hospitals. Also, a committee will specify the doctors whose signatures shall be recognized for that purpose, to avoid further abuse of the opportunity, he noted.
