‘Discrepancy in KPTC employees pay prompted drivers to strike’ Company did not violate the law: Minister Al-Afasi

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 5: Kuwait Public Transport Company (KPTC) should ensure justice for all its employees, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi. The minister clarified the company has not violated a law on the minimum salary of workers but it must treat its employees equally to avoid any labor strike, which may impede work procedures. He believes the discrepancy in the KPTC employees’ salaries has prompted the drivers to stage a strike that paralyzed its operations for some days, reiterating the company did not violate the law.

On the other hand, Al-Afasi commented on a proposal to send a donation caravan for the flood victims in Pakistan. He stressed, “We trust in the ability of the International Islamic Charitable Organization, which is in charge of collecting donations in coordination with the ministry, to distribute the donations to those who are truly in need.” Al-Afasi added the ministry is currently coordinating with its foreign affairs counterpart to closely follow up the distribution of the donations to the flood victims in Pakistan.
