3,500-km trip from Lahore ends in Kuwait arrest Pakistani held after entering country through electric fence

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 3: Securitymen at the Abdali Border Post have arrested a 53-year-old Pakistani who came across 3,500 kilometers from Lahore and attempted to infiltrate into Kuwait, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to a security source the Pakistani was arrested while trying to enter Kuwait from Iraq cutting through the electric fence. In his attempt he was electrocuted twice and suffered first degree burns to the hands and chest.

The source added the securitymen at the border saw the man in a pitiful condition standing near a water cooler on the Iraqi side of the border near the electric fence, so they approached him and found traces of burns on his hand and chest.

First the border guards thought the man was a truck driver and might have mistakenly touched the electric fence but when they asked him the reason for his plight, he told them in fluent Arabic that he infiltrated from Iraq by jumping over the electric fence.

During interrogation the Pakistani told police he knows Kuwait well because he lived in the country until 1996.

He added he traveled from Pakistan to Kuwait on foot and sometimes hitchhiked. He added he left his country after the recent floods in Pakistan and sneaked into Iran and then from Iran into Iraq.
He traveled to Safwan by car and then to Abdali and succeeded in crossing the electric fence. The source added the man will be referred to the concerned authorities for appropriate action.
