Women breaking taboo in weather forecasting jobs
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 1, (KUNA): Women have been part of the media since the 1960s but weather forecasting somehow was basically dominated by males, but women recently broke such domination.
In an interview with KUNA, Iftkhar Al-Hashimi and Maha Al-Khazmi reflected on the presence of Kuwaiti women weather forecasters in local and private channels, saying that such development was good for this genre of media.
Al-Hashimi stressed that weather forecasts were very important and vital for a number of reasons, saying that some businesses and activities depend on weather forecasting to determine what course of action should be taken within a day or a week.
Women forecasters were as capable as their men counterpart in terms of attending to their duties and professionalism, said Al-Hashimi. Al-Khazmi, on her part, couldn’t agree more, stressing that being a weather forecaster was an unpredictable career especially when the subject matter was the weather.
“The weather is a continuously shifting environment,” noted Al-Khadmi who revealed that weather forecasts could be very challenging; thus, one most continuously develop the skill and study his or her actual surroundings to be a good weather forecaster.
