‘All working Kuwaitis should get KD 50’ Islamists eye amending decision on increment

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 1: The Islamist MPs will submit a proposal to amend a decision on granting KD 50 increment to Kuwaiti employees with a salary of less than KD 1,000 to give the increment to all national workers regardless of their current salary at the beginning of the next legislative round, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting reliable sources.

According to the proponents of the bill, it is unconstitutional to deprive a large number of citizens of their right to the salary increase. They stressed the need to grant the KD 50 increment to all Kuwaiti employees without specifying the salary ceiling to ensure justice for all, as stipulated in the Kuwaiti Constitution.
On the other hand, sources disclosed the parliamentary blocs will meet after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays to finalize their lists of priorities in the next legislative round. Sources said these priorities include the approval of draft bills on combating corruption, requiring officials to submit statements of their assets and liabilities, public tenders, cooperative societies, establishment of the telecommunications authority and health insurance.
