Citizens, expats fed expired food items by companies violating ban Veracity of report probed by MC member

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 28: Municipal Council (MC) member Mehalhal Al-Khaled has submitted a query asking if it was true that some food companies were secretly importing expired meat, chicken and deserts, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Khaled asked for names of all companies which distributed expired food stuffs in the country before the laboratory test results were declared. He asked what measures were taken against such companies and if they imported expired stuff more than once this year.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar confirmed that Mohammad and Al-Sahan Company distributed 65 tons of meat in the local market before Kuwait Municipality could examine the samples, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Safar, in reply to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Adel Al-Saraawi, said the company did not abide by rules and did not keep the meat in its store until test results were declared.

The minister said the company played the same trick once before and wrote a pledge saying it won’t repeat the act. He added that the issue is still at the legal affairs department of the ministry.

In another development, Kuwait Municipality forwarded Municipal Council member Farz Al-Mutairi’s proposal on laying asphalt passageways on the Sixth Ring Road for the benefit of Sabah Al-Nasser inhabitants to the Ministry of Public Works, but the latter has not yet responded to it, Al-Seyassah daily quoted Director General of the Municipality Ahmed Al-Subaih as saying.

Referring to council member Abdullah Al-Fahad’s proposal on providing services to frequent visitors to the desert and horse stables areas, Al-Subaih said the Municipality spoke to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and hasn’t received any response to it yet.

Furthermore, commenting on member Ahmad Al-Bughaili’s proposal on establishing an integrated center for teaching Holy Quran and Islamic studies in Firdous, he said the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs had earlier made a similar proposal and asked for a plot, but the Municipal Council rejected the request.

Al-Subaih also commented on member Jinan Bushehri’s proposal on releasing touristic maps of Kuwait by saying Municipality released such maps between 2001 and 2004. “They include the most prominent touristic, entertaining, marketing and service landmarks in Kuwait. The information on the maps was updated in 2008 and 2009,” he noted.
