Various Kuwait areas still suffering from ‘power cuts’ More generators being ordered

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: Even as the Minister of Electricity and Water reassured the nation is out of the power crisis, major areas such as Rawda, Qadsiya, Nuzha and Daiyya suffered power disruptions Thursday afternoon, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The Minister of Electricity and Water Bader Shuraiaan said the power failure was experienced around 3:20 pm, and added emergency teams restored power to the areas 20 minutes after the incident, except for Daiyya and Nuzha, where the workers are still trying to resolve the situation.
In a statement, the ministry stressed the malfunction is being tackled, whereas spare power generators are currently serving the two areas.

Meanwhile, some areas have experienced continuous power cut, in the face of the recent low consumption rate, reports Al-Qabas daily. Sources said areas such as Ferdous faced power disruptions lasting more than three hours.
On the other hand, the Central Tenders Committee approved a tender to import an electric generator worth KD 2, 087,250. The committee also approved a tender to import cables at a cost of KD 21,900,000.

Meanwhile, Head of the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) Ahmad Al-Kulaib disclosed that the committee approved a tender to import, install, operate and perform maintenance works on prepaid meters with the Kuwait Plants Construction Company (KPCC), reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Kulaib stressed KPCC was selected from three other companies that offered to implement the project, and added the tender is valued at 83.9 million dinars. The company is expected to start the project immediately after Eid Al-Fitr, in coordination with Ministry of Electricity and Water.

According to Al-Seyassah daily, the National Assembly decided to annul the investigation committee handling the calcified coal project in the last parliamentary term, even as the committee is still investigating the 2007/2008 emergency power contracts.

Parliamentary sources said the committee is facing serious difficulty due to the outcome of the case, plus the number of departments involved, even though it works in privacy.
