KUWAIT CITY, Aug 26: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammed Al-Afasi has referred the chairmen of three cooperative societies to the General Department for Investigation for embezzling the money of shareholders, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

A reliable source at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor said the Board chairman, treasurer, Chairman of Purchasing Department and Chairman of Social Services Committee at one of the cooperative societies in Farwaniya has been referred to the department for embezzling about KD 1.8 million. This happened after the board was dissolved.

Also referred to the department was one of the board members of one of the cooperative societies in Hawalli for committing huge financial violations and yet another member of the board of directors in one of the Farwaniya cooperative societies has been referred for interrogation for presenting bogus accounts on revenues and supplies.

The source noted a double-standard policy is clearly visible when the ministry deals with the board of directors of the violating cooperative societies because some of them have gone unpunished.
