KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: A thirty-three-year-old Filipino is in critical condition after he was stabbed by a group of local youths late Monday night in Salmiya.

The victim, Michael Leynes, was reportedly walking along a dimly-lit parking area on his way home from work at a fine dining restaurant owned by a well-known local conglomerate and passed by a group of local youths who reportedly taunted him and one of whom struck him on the back with a hard object and in reflex, swung back with a plastic shopping bag he was carrying at the time.

Next thing he knew, he felt pain at his back and that was when he was stabbed by someone from the group who then reportedly ran away, leaving him bleeding. Luckily, some Indian youths who happened to be nearby and witnessed the incident came to his assistance and brought him to Mubarak Al Kabeer hospital around midnight, according to a source close to the victim who requested anonymity.

The source also said that according to a nursing staff at the said hospital who works at the operating theater, the victim was operated on for injuries that also affected his liver and is still in critical but stable condition.

The source and other friends of the victim said the place where the incident happened is an abandoned parking area situated between Mogeara bin Shubba and Salem Al Mubarak streets in Salmiya and is dimly lit and frequented by groups of oftentimes unruly local youths who harass passersby, especially at nighttime.
