Municipality okays land for new church
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: The Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmad Al-Subaih has approved a piece of land for the construction of a Roman Catholic Church in Mahboulah, based on request by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports Al-Shahid daily.
The daily quoted a reliable source as saying Al-Subaih has forwarded the request to the Municipal Council for final ratification. According to the source, there are possibilities the council will reject the application because the Catholic Church shares a complex with the Anglican Church at the same location.
He stressed that building a church requires a vast area and huge funds, and cited the Coptic Church is still under construction due to lack of adequate funding after Sheikha Fareeha donated 6,000 square/meters of land to build a new one in Hawalli when the old church was demolished.
